Checkout Links 6.0: A Faster UI, the New Wix SDK, and a Free Tier

Last week, we quietly pushed the biggest update to Checkout Links for Wix since the app first launched.

This was not just a small feature release. We rebuilt a large part of the app experience, updated the core technical foundation, and changed the pricing model so every Wix store owner can start using checkout links for free.

The update has three main parts:

  1. A redesigned interface that makes creating checkout links faster.
  2. A new free tier that lets merchants create their first checkout template at no cost.
  3. A migration to the new Wix SDK, giving the app a stronger and more future-ready technical base.

The goal is simple: make Checkout Links easier to try, easier to use, and more reliable for Wix merchants who want to send customers directly to checkout.

Why We Rebuilt the App

Checkout Links started as a focused tool for one clear problem: helping Wix store owners create direct checkout links for specific products and offers.

Instead of sending customers through the full product page and cart flow every time, merchants can create a checkout link and share it anywhere: WhatsApp, Instagram, email, ads, QR codes, landing pages, or direct customer messages.

As more use cases became clear, the app needed a better interface.

The original version worked, but it could be smoother. Creating links should feel quick, especially for merchants who want to build multiple checkout templates for different campaigns, products, or customer groups.

So in version 6.0, we focused on the full merchant experience: how fast it feels, how clear the flow is, and how easy it is to understand what to do next.

The Big News: A Free Tier

The biggest commercial change in Checkout Links 6.0 is the new free tier.

Every Wix merchant can now install the app and create one custom checkout template for free.

That means you can test the app with a real product, create a real checkout link, and use it in a real campaign without paying first.

We made this change because the value of checkout links is easier to understand when you actually use one. It is one thing to explain that direct checkout links reduce friction. It is another thing to send a customer one link and see how simple the buying flow becomes.

The free tier is designed for that first moment.

A merchant can create a checkout template, share the link, test it with customers, and decide whether it fits their store. For some smaller stores, one template may already be useful. For growing stores that want multiple campaigns, bundles, or product-specific checkout flows, the paid plan is there when they need more.

The idea is to make the first step easy.

No long setup. No commitment before trying. Just create the first checkout link and see how it works.

A Brand New UI and UX

Checkout Links 6.0 also includes a full UI refresh.

The new interface is cleaner, faster, and easier to move through. The goal was not to add visual noise. The goal was to help merchants create checkout links with fewer decisions and less confusion.

The updated flow makes it easier to:

This matters because store owners are busy. They do not want to spend ten minutes figuring out how to create a simple link. They want to choose the product, generate the link, and use it in their next campaign.

That was the main UX principle behind this update.

The app should feel like a practical business tool, not another complicated dashboard.

Better for Campaigns, Messages, and QR Codes

The new version is especially useful for merchants who sell through more than just their website.

A lot of small stores now sell through direct conversations and small campaigns. A customer asks about a product on Instagram. A store owner sends a WhatsApp offer to loyal customers. A merchant prints a QR code for an event or package insert. An email campaign promotes one specific product bundle.

In all of these cases, the customer does not need to browse the whole store.

They need a clear link to the offer.

Checkout Links helps merchants create that link and reuse it wherever they sell. Version 6.0 makes this process faster and easier to manage.

Under the Hood: Moving to the New Wix SDK

This release was not only about the interface.

We also migrated the app's core logic to the new Wix SDK.

This was an important technical step. Wix has been moving toward a newer, more unified JavaScript SDK, and we wanted Checkout Links to be built on the right foundation going forward.

For merchants, this is not something they need to think about while using the app. But it matters behind the scenes.

A stronger technical foundation helps with stability, maintainability, and future updates. It also allows us to keep improving the app without relying on older patterns that may become harder to support over time.

In simple terms: we rebuilt the engine so the app is better prepared for the future.

That is important for a tool that merchants may depend on for campaigns, sales links, and customer checkout flows.

Why This Update Matters

Checkout Links 6.0 is a bigger release than it may look from the outside.

The app is now easier to try because of the free tier. It is easier to use because of the redesigned interface. And it is more future-ready because of the Wix SDK migration.

That combination matters.

A good app should not only have useful features. It should also feel simple from the first click, especially for small business owners who do not have time to learn another complex system.

With this update, we wanted Checkout Links to feel closer to the tool it was always meant to be: focused, practical, and quick to use.

What's Next

This release gives us a stronger base for future improvements.

Some of the next areas we are looking at include better analytics, more campaign-focused tools, and additional ways for merchants to understand which checkout links are performing best.

The long-term goal is not to turn Checkout Links into a bloated marketing platform. The goal is to keep building useful tools around a very clear idea:

Helping merchants turn customer interest into checkout faster.
